SUMMARY:The Electric Gardens
DESCRIPTION:The Electric Gardens will run from Friday\, 23 January to Sunday\, 15 February. \nThe unusual experience consists of a walking tour for adults\, children and groups\, through the darkened upper Botanic Gardens with dramatic  lighting\, sound effects and music enhancing The Electric Gardens experience. The tour includes a special visit inside the Kibble Palace. \nMichael Dale\, West End Festival director said: “We’re delighted to give this new event the go-ahead. \n“At this quiet time of year\, it’s nice to have something to look forward to\, and this gives people from across Glasgow the opportunity to plan an evening in the west end\, taking in The Electric Gardens as well as taking advantage of the fantastic restaurants and bars in the area. \n“While The West End Festival runs in June every year\, we are expanding our operations into the winter months and so  this event is something different\, an opportunity to see the iconic and well-loved Botanic Gardens in a different light!” \nFrom 5.30-8.30pm every day\, excluding 26 January or 2 February\, tours will start every half hour\, taking around 45 minutes. The natural characteristics of the Botanic Gardens means the experience is fully accessible to all. \nAn early bird offer has launched today until 31 December\, with child tickets priced at £6\, adults £8 and a family ticket for four at £25. From 1 January\, ticket prices will then be £8 for a child\, £10 for an adult and £30 for a family ticket. For children under five admission is free. \nThe west end businesses are participating in the event by putting on special offers during this period\, so groups and families can make the occasion a night out.  Mark Tracey\, chairman of the Byres Road Traders Association said “We warmly welcome initiatives like this from the West End Festival with whom we work in the summer.  A quality event like this merely underlines the quality of the food and drink offering in the west end\, and we hope to see many new faces for The Electric Gardens.”

SUMMARY:Stars over the Botanics
DESCRIPTION:extracted from the The Astronomical Society of Glasgow’s Website\nhttp://www.theasg.org.uk/index.php/asg-events/icalrepeat.detail/2015/01/20/40/-/stars-over-the-botanics \nTuesday 20 January 2015\, 19:15 – 21:30\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOur ‘Stars Over the Botanics‘ events are a chance for the public to come along and talk to some astronomers\, and get the chance to have a look at some of the wonders in the heavens above. The events are ticketed\, and are not free\, however they are great value for money. We’ll have a number of telescopes available for you to look through\, all operated by our Astronomers\, so you can be sure there will be something interesting to see. Whether it’s the Moon\, the Planets\, or some deep sky objects\, if it’s there\, we’ll find it for you. \nOn the off chance that the weather is cloudy (or even raining)\, we have a programme of lectures and talks available\, all in the comfort and surroundings of the Botanic Gardens’ Kibble Palace. Using planetarium software\, we can take you on a tour of the universe\, show you the moon in fantastic detail\, or show you some of the many phenomenon of the sky and sun like noctilucent clouds\, sun dogs and parhelion. \nSo no matter whether it’s clear or cloudy\, it’s always a good night. The events limited in numbers and entry is paid at the gate on the night. Arrive early to avoid disappointment as the evenings are always well attended\, and are limited to the first 40 people to arrive. \nDates and times are listed below. \nGate opens 7:15 pm for a 7:30 pm start. \nTickets\, £4 (adults) & £2 (children).\nA full wet weather programme will be available when observing is not possible.

SUMMARY:Henry IV
DESCRIPTION:(adapted from Henry IV Parts 1 & 2) \nDirected and adapted by Gordon Barr \n“Uneasy lies the head that wears a crown”\nHenry IV has won the crown from Richard II but his throne faces rebellion and his health is failing. As the King prepares for war\, his son Prince Hal is languishing in brothels and taverns in the company of the notorious Sir John Falstaff. \nCan Hal face up to the responsibilities required of an heir to the throne? Will he ever be able to live up to his father’s expectations? And when the time comes\, will he be able to choose between duty and loyalty to an old friend? \nOur “Lesser Spotted Shakespeare” programme continues this year as just 3 actors perform Shakespeare’s great historical drama in the magnificent surroundings of the Kibble Palace and explore what it takes for Hal to eventually become Henry V.

SUMMARY:Henry V
DESCRIPTION:Directed and adapted by Jennifer Dick\n“Awake our sleeping sword of war…\nWe would not seek a battle as we are\,\nNor\, as we are\, we say we will not shun it”\nJune\, 1915. The Great War is not yet one year old. A Glasgow school hosts its annual Gala day and Prize-giving… \nYou\, the family and friends of all our scholars and teachers\, are invited to the fete. A variety of entertainments will be on offer\, not least our ‘Grand Patriotic Pageant’\, in which the whole of our school performs Shakespeare’s great classic; Henry V. \nCan our cockpit hold the vasty fields of France? Or may we cram within our wooded O the very casques that did affright the air at Agincourt? \nThese are dark days for our country. But amongst the gathering gloom all the youth of Scotland are on fire. \nP.S. Our Headmaster has asked me to remind you that although the Pageant begins at 7.45pm\, various other entertainments will be available from 7.15pm onwards.
