SUMMARY:Henry V
DESCRIPTION:Directed and adapted by Jennifer Dick\n“Awake our sleeping sword of war…\nWe would not seek a battle as we are\,\nNor\, as we are\, we say we will not shun it”\nJune\, 1915. The Great War is not yet one year old. A Glasgow school hosts its annual Gala day and Prize-giving… \nYou\, the family and friends of all our scholars and teachers\, are invited to the fete. A variety of entertainments will be on offer\, not least our ‘Grand Patriotic Pageant’\, in which the whole of our school performs Shakespeare’s great classic; Henry V. \nCan our cockpit hold the vasty fields of France? Or may we cram within our wooded O the very casques that did affright the air at Agincourt? \nThese are dark days for our country. But amongst the gathering gloom all the youth of Scotland are on fire. \nP.S. Our Headmaster has asked me to remind you that although the Pageant begins at 7.45pm\, various other entertainments will be available from 7.15pm onwards.

SUMMARY:Henry IV
DESCRIPTION:(adapted from Henry IV Parts 1 & 2) \nDirected and adapted by Gordon Barr \n“Uneasy lies the head that wears a crown”\nHenry IV has won the crown from Richard II but his throne faces rebellion and his health is failing. As the King prepares for war\, his son Prince Hal is languishing in brothels and taverns in the company of the notorious Sir John Falstaff. \nCan Hal face up to the responsibilities required of an heir to the throne? Will he ever be able to live up to his father’s expectations? And when the time comes\, will he be able to choose between duty and loyalty to an old friend? \nOur “Lesser Spotted Shakespeare” programme continues this year as just 3 actors perform Shakespeare’s great historical drama in the magnificent surroundings of the Kibble Palace and explore what it takes for Hal to eventually become Henry V.

SUMMARY:The Comedy of Errors
DESCRIPTION:Bard in the Botanics: “The Comedy of Errors”\nDirected by Gordon Barr \n“I to the world am like a drop of water\nThat in the ocean seeks another drop” \nEphesus hates Syracuse! They hate them so much that any Syracusian found on Ephesus soil will be condemned to death. In to this highly charged atmosphere come Antipholus of Syracuse and his servant\, Dromio\, searching for their long lost twins. \nUnbeknownst to them\, they’ve come to just the right place and so the stage is set for a hilarious tale of mistaken identity\, assumed personas and wild mishaps as a family scattered by fortune search for reconciliation and a happy ending. \nSet in a country that might just feel familiar to some of our local audiences\, Bard in the Botanics is delighted to launch the “What We May Be” season with a sparkling new production of this most riotous of comedies.

SUMMARY:Hamlet
DESCRIPTION:Wilderness of Tigers\, in association with Bard in the Botanics\n“The time is out of joint: O cursed spite\nThat ever I was born to set it right.”\nThe King of Denmark is dead. The young Prince Hamlet returns from university for his father’s funeral and finds himself also attending his mother’s swift wedding to his uncle. Meanwhile\, at the edge of the kingdom\, the ghost of the dead King has been seen walking nightly. \nThe news the ghost brings will shake the very core of Hamlet’s being and set him on an impossible quest that forces him to wrestle with life’s deepest questions. In Hamlet we see a sensitive being struggle to exist in a rotten\, corrupt world. \nThis streamlined ensemble production of Shakespeare’s greatest tragedy brings an element of playfulness to a drama that traverses the great chasms of the human experience. \nHamlet is presented as part of the Bard in the Botanics Emerging Artists Scheme.
