DESCRIPTION:The Friends of the Botanic Gardens Annual Outing this year will be to the Explores Garden and The Branklyn NTS Garden in Perth. \nThe coach will depart Glasgow Botanic Gardens in the morning first arriving at the Explorers Garden in Pitlochry. Guests will have the chance to experience the wonderful woodland garden which celebrates the stories and results of Scottish Plant Hunters. The coach will then travel to the Branklyn NTS Garden which features two acres of magnificent garden\, set on the side of Kinnoull Hill overlooking Perth. Branklyn holds an impressive collection of rare and unusual plants. This attractive garden\, a haven of peace within walking distance of Perth\, was developed by John and Dorothy Renton with the help of seed collections from plant hunters such as Forrest\, Ludlow and Sherriff. \nTransport will leave from the front of the Kibble Palace at 8.30am at a charge of £18.00 per person for the transport only. Pay your own entrance fee on the day. Friends may wish to bring a packed lunch. SUMMARY:Stars over the Botanics
DESCRIPTION:The ‘Stars Over the Botanics‘ events are a chance for the public to come along and talk to some astronomers\, and get the chance to have a look at some of the wonders in the heavens above. The events are ticketed\, and are not free\, however they are great value for money. We’ll have a number of telescopes available for you to look through\, all operated by our Astronomers\, so you can be sure there will be something interesting to see. Whether it’s the Moon\, the Planets\, or some deep sky objects\, if it’s there\, we’ll find it for you. \nOn the off chance that the weather is cloudy (or even raining)\, we have a programme of lectures and talks available\, all in the comfort and surroundings of the Botanic Gardens’ Kibble Palace. Using planetarium software\, we can take you on a tour of the universe\, show you the moon in fantastic detail\, or show you some of the many phenomenon of the sky and sun like noctilucent clouds\, sun dogs and parhelion. \nSo no matter whether it’s clear or cloudy\, it’s always a good night. The events limited in numbers and entry is paid at the gate on the night. Arrive early to avoid disappointment as the evenings are always well attended\, and are limited to the first 40 people to arrive.  Gate opens 7:15 pm for a 7:30 pm start.  Tickets\, £4 (adults) & £2 (children).  A full wet weather programme will be available when observing is not possible.

DESCRIPTION:In a first for the city\, 30 full scale prehistoric creatures will be lurking in Glasgow Botanic Gardens as the Jurassic Kingdom tour comes to town from 26 August. Visitors can travel back over 65 million years to come face to face with a fearsome T-Rex\, watch the Deinonychus and Tenontosaurus do battle or meet the gentle but most definitely giant 16 metre long Diplodocus. \nAs the UK’s first ever national outdoor animatronic dino-tour\, snarling jaws\, moving eyes\, swaying tails and roaring sound effects will make for an exhilarating experience. Visitors will follow a trail around the leafy Botanics and encounter the giant dinosaurs as part of a walking tour which lasts around 60 minutes\, depending on how fast you walk… or run. \nFamily-friendly Jurassic Kingdom offers an unmissable opportunity to learn more about these fascinating creatures with an educational marquee showing dinosaur documentaries and fact-filled worksheet for primary school aged children.  \nOther activities include an excavation scene where younger children can get hands on and dig to unearth a T-Rex fossil\, immersive virtual reality headsets offering a range of digital dinosaur experiences and plenty of photo opportunities for those all-important Spinosaurus selfies.  \nThe event runs from 26 August until 10 September daily from 10am to 6pm with last entry at 5pm. \nTickets are now on sale at www.jurassickingdom.uk Book now to take advantage of the early bird discount – enter GLASGOW20 when purchasing from the website for 20% off standard prices. \n Online booking prices from £11.50 adults\, £10.50 concessions\, £9.50 children and £38 for a family ticket plus standard booking fees.
