SUMMARY:Workshop: An introduction to natural dyeing
DESCRIPTION:Join horticulturist and craftsperson Julia Billings in a full-day workshop on the essentials of transferring colours found in plants onto fabric and yarn. \nWe will cover the key aspects of natural dyeing: fibre preparation and mordanting\, sourcing dyestuffs\, the various steps involved in preparing and working with a natural dyebath\, safe dyeing practice\, over-dyeing to create complex colours\, keeping records of dye experiments and other tips for dyeing with plants and other natural materials. We will explore the use of mordants and modifiers before and after dyeing to achieve a wide range of colours from the same pot and take a walk around Glasgow Botanic Gardens to explore the dye potential of some of the plants growing in the gardens. \nAll materials\, comprehensive notes on processes covered\, samples of fabric and yarn dyed in the workshop\, tea and cake £65 (limited to 10 participants) \nTo book: Please go to www.woollwnflower.com and click o the shop link

DESCRIPTION:The nineteenth annual Weekend Orchid Fair will be held at Glasgow Botanic Gardens on Saturday May 14th and Sunday May 15th. \nEntry to this popular event is free and open from 10am until 6pm on Saturday and 10am until 5pm on the Sunday. \nSpecialist orchid nurseries will be tempting you with their exquisite flowers and plants and offering advice on how to keep them should you need it. \nThe Scottish Orchid Society are putting on a display and giving talks and practical demonstrations. In addition the Glasgow Branch of the British Cactus and Succulent Society will exhibit a range of plants to admire and buy \nThe Main Range of glasshouses will be open as usual from 10am until 6:00pm each day for visitors to enjoy the extensive tropical plant displays including Glasgow’s municipal orchid collection. \n  \n \n  \n
