As we approach the end of a spectacular summer my thoughts as Chair turn to our AGM. As previously intimated this is on Thursday 15th September at 6.30 pm in the south wing of Kibble Palace. Light refreshments will be served after the meeting.
We are looking for a new treasurer and several committee members. As with many these days we welcome skills in IT and social media.
A member with an interest in merchandising would be beneficial. Enquiries or nominations can be made to secretary[at]glasgowbotanicgardens.com.
We will accept self-nominations or nominations on the evening.
As the nights draw in we have a lecture programme arranged for members. We continue to use a well tried and successful model with Glasgow Natural History Society and Glasgow Tree Lovers’ Society.
On Thursday 30th October Richard Baines will be speaking about his travels in Vietnam and SE Asia where he has led several botanical expeditions. Richard is well known in Scotland as the Curator of Logan Botanic Gardens in SW Scotland. He has published several scientific papers, written books and is known as a broadcaster. Additionally he tends a ten acre garden in his leisure time.
On Thursday 11th November Dr David Long from Edinburgh BG will speak about his work on the flora of Bhutan. Staff at RBGE have written the first flora of this rich and biodiverse country.
Both meetings begin at 7 pm and are held in the University Lecture Theatre in Kelvin Hall.
